And that's a wrap!
Recently, I made my way to Switzerland- yes Switzerland.. OK.. it was actually a part of Florida named Switzerland but a girl can dream right?
BUT I must say my time in "Switzerland" was pretty amazing, I worked with the Monique Burr Foundation on taping some of the lessons in their new(er)program for schools called Child Safety Matters. The purpose of our taping was to record a facilitator (School counselors, that's you!) doing the lessons. The lessons are scripted, making it uber easy to talk about some pretty difficult topics. By having the scripted lessons, it creates validity throughout the program and makes monitoring the appropriate wordage and vocabulary streamlined and simple.
The topics covered in the elementary program include bullying/cyberbullying, abuse (physical, emotional, neglect, sexual), and 5 simple rules to keep yourself safe. While I wish we didn't live in a society that needs to share this information, we do, so the more we talk about these issues, the more kids know what is right, and what is wrong.
A majority of the counties in Florida have this program [for Free!], and MBF is trying to get this simple-2 lesson per grade- program to other states. Fingers crossed for them!
